Peter Lik Donates to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Updated 07/28/2021

It has become one of Las Vegas’ most highly attended philanthropic events – the annual St. Jude Celebrity Poker Tournament, only experiencing its second year in existence, seems to have no problem bringing in a slew of familiar faces to help raise a hefty check for those unfortunate young children suffering from the devastations of cancer. On Saturday, November 7th, while Peter Lik was undoubtedly busy with the highly anticipated release of his epic collection, Equation of Time, he still managed to generously donate one of his awe-inspiring images, The Iron, to this important event for such a worthwhile cause, which kicked off at the Palms Casino and Resort.

As the black tie optional evening began, TV and film celebrities such as Jason Alexander and Shannon Elizabeth milled about, readying for a night of high stakes poker – with some buy-ins reaching into the thousands. During the dinner portion of the event, a live auction successfully sold off many fine items, including a black & white, Limited Edition print of Peter Lik’s The Iron – a profound image of New York City’s famed Flatiron building amidst the sparkling lights of the metropolis at night. The photograph garnered an impressive $6,500, which contributed to the unprecedented grand total of over $400,000 raised from the local gala of charitable gambling.

This was not the first time Peter Lik has teamed up with the organization, which has pushed the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to 80 percent since they began more than 50 years ago. Last year, Peter also successfully donated his glowing cavern image, Desire, which coincidentally sold for the same amount as this year’s contribution. “Charities like St. Jude. Children’s Research Hospital are doing the most important work on the planet,” Peter commented. “They are protecting our precious future and bringing smiles to the brave souls who suffer from such a terrible illness. I am honored to be a part of this endeavor.”
