On Saturday, January 24th, the Nevada Ballet Theatre’s (NBT) 31st annual Black & White Ball brought together some of Las Vegas’ most prominent societal figures for an evening of quality dance performances and an opportunity to raise money for a good cause. During the event, Peter’s masterwork, Crimson Tides (shown above), was auctioned off to a generous bidder for $4,500, and all funds have since gone towards supporting NBT productions, its Academy and educational outreach initiatives.
It is one of Peter’s highly praised images - Crimson Tides is an abstract depiction of a vibrant, glowing cavern at Arizona’s Antelope Canyon, and the Master Photographer could not be more thrilled about donating it to a local cause: “It is so important that we keep all art forms alive – especially for kids and young adults who need a creative outlet. It’s a topic I can relate to and I’m proud to help an organization in my own backyard.”
Dating back to the 70s, the Nevada Ballet Theater was founded by professional dancers in an effort to create a Las Vegas-based ballet and dance company with classical “roots.” Since then, the NBT has created the Academy – an affiliated educational dance program to help reach, educate and inspire over 4,000 students each year – some of whom hail from “at-risk” communities. The NBT is constantly seeking donations to help keep all of its wonderful initiatives going strong.
Since 1985, the NBT’s Black & White Ball has become known as a high profile event, even touted as the “crème de la crème” of society by Luxury Las Vegas Magazine. Over the years it has honored well-known names in the industry, such as Bette Midler and Celine Dion. As usual, this year’s event brought in some of Vegas’ most familiar faces, with many participating in the auction portion of the evening. However, it was one anonymous Aria executive who simply would not leave the event without a classic Peter Lik image. After a handsome bid of $4,500, both he and the NBT have a lot more to show for themselves.
